I’ve got a 2015 VW Polo and over the last few weeks I’ve noticed the red battery symbol on the dash flickers on and off, but only during the afternoon when it’s really hot outside. In the morning or evening when it’s cooler, no light at all. The car starts and drives fine, no weird smells or noises. I took it to a shop and they tested the alternator – said it was charging normally at around 14 volts. Tested the battery – said it was “weak but still usable.” The mechanic shrugged and said maybe the heat is making something expand and lose contact temporarily. That doesn’t sound right to me though. I’ve been reading through batteryzoneuae.com/volkswagen-battery-replacement and noticed they mention that VW charging systems can act strange when a battery is on the edge of failing. Has anyone else experienced a flickering battery light that comes and goes with temperature? Should I just replace the battery now or wait until it gets worse? I don’t want to get stuck on Sheikh Zayed Road in August.
